About the AmericanGunsmithing Institute

The American Gunsmithing Institute is the premier source for how-to gunsmithing courses on DVD. American Gunsmithing Institute exists to provide firearm enthusiasts with the knowledge needed to keep their guns in safe and top-notch condition, maximizing their shooting experience and potential in a way that preserves the Gunsmithing art and ensures “that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

 

The American Gunsmithing Institute offers distance education in the following programs: Professional and Practical Gunsmithing, Welding, and Machine Shop including instruction in Lathe, Vertical Mill and General Machine Shop. These courses are comprehensive and easy to understand, enabling the student to become an expert in a short amount of time, while learning from their home.

 

The American Gunsmithing Institute also offers non-certified courses that carefully demonstrate complete repair and customization of many firearms. Courses offered instruct in disassembly/reassembly, troubleshooting, relining barrels, gun cleaning, and how-to courses covering many different techniques. Recently, we have created even more new courses, such as Law Enforcement Armorers, Certified Firearms Appraiser, and more. Other subjects available include courses designed to maximize the precision and performance of shooting and hunting techniques, including but not limited to long range, Cowboy Action, instinctive shooting, and more.

 

Our instructors are qualified and have years of experience in their fields. They use detailed step-by-step teaching methods to ensure you receive the maximum benefits of these courses. The American Gunsmithing Institute offers the most expansive catalog of gunsmithing courses on the market.

Student Advisors

Cheri Manny

Cheri is the Senior Student Advisor here at American Gunsmithing Institute. She has been with the company for over 16 years and brings a level of expertise and knowledge about the school and the courses second only to Gene. Consequently, she is much in demand and spends all day on the phone taking care of her students and talking to prospective students who call from all over the country.

Cheri is also responsible for all of the students working through the Veterans administration. Any Veterans with service related disability ratings of 30% or more may qualify for our course through Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation Department. Cheri has 8 years of experience working within the VA system and has a great rapport with many of the VA Services Officers.

Sue Engle

is very affable, which our customers, as well as co-workers, appreciate and admire.In sales for 25 years, and the hospitality industry for 20, she is dedicated to ensuring that our customers get the best experience possible when introducing prospective students to what AGI has to offer, and how it can, and will positively impact their future as a gunsmith.

Chris Bolton

works hard to provide students with easy access to our programs.  He is an avid hunter and enjoys sharing his knowledge of our programs with new students

Jeff Quick

is devoted to making sure students have the opportunity to gain new skills and better their lives.  A gun owner himself, Jeff understands the need for qualified gunsmiths and is dedicated to making sure every potential student gets the opportunities AGI and GCA offer.

It is not a requirement in the state of California to obtain a Gunsmithing Certificate to practice gunsmithing. However, possessing a Gunsmithing Certificate will demonstrate a proven level of competence. A Federal Firearms License and State licenses are required to operate a gunsmithing business.
The American Gunsmithing Institute’s approval to operate as a private postsecondary institution in the state of California is based on provisions of the California Private Postsecondary Education Act (CPPEA) of 2009 (California Education Code, Title 3, Division 10, Part 59, Chapter 8), which was effective January 1, 2010.
